The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Colin Mayes, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Lake for Steven Blaney.

 

Other Members present: Gary Merasty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Christine Aubin, Legal Counsel, Legal Services; Douglas Kropp, Senior Counsel, Resolution Strategy Unit. Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Daniel Ricard, Director General, Litigation Management and Resolution Branch; Daniel Watson, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Strategic Direction.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 21, 2007, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act.
 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 7, 2006, the Committee resumed its study on Aboriginal Housing.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

At 12:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
