The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Colin Mayes, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Steven Blaney, Rod Bruinooge, Jean Crowder, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Yvon Lévesque, Inky Mark and Colin Mayes.

 

Acting Members present: Tina Keeper for Hon. Anita Neville, Yves Lessard for Marc Lemay and Hon. Geoff Regan for Todd Norman Russell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada: Cindy Blackstock, Executive Director.

 

Other Participants present: First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada: Rachel Levasseur, Summer Student. Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development: Roger Préfontaine, Clerk of the Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the Education of Aboriginal People.
 

Cindy Blackstock made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write to the Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Developoment asking him to inform the Committee on his position in regards to the Wen: de - The Journey Continues (2005) report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee members wishing to do so would participate in events commemorating National Aboriginal Day's 10th Anniversary on Victoria Island on Wednesday, June 21 at 3:30 p.m.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
