The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 4:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Gerry Ritz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Réal Lapierre, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, David Smith and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Competition Bureau: Gaston Jorré, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition; Richard Taylor, Deputy Commissioner, Civil Matters Branch; Patrick Hughes, Acting Major Case Director and Strategic Policy Advisor, Mergers Branch. Agricore United: Murdoch MacKay, Vice-President, Operations; Cam Dahl, Government Relations and Policy Development Officer.

 

On motion of André Bellavance, it was agreed, — That the in camera discussion about the World Trade Organization negotiations, at the November 21, 2005 meeting of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food, be made public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on issues related to Agricore United and the Competition Bureau regarding the ownership of a terminal elevator in the Port of Vancouver.
 

Gaston Jorré made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:54 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

Murdoch MacKay made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
