The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 371 West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, James Bezan, Claude Drouin, Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, Larry Miller, Denise Poirier-Rivard, Gerry Ritz, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Kevin Sorenson for David L. Anderson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Special Crops Association: Steve Foster, President; François Catellier, Executive Director. Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre: Donna DuBreuil, President. Food Processors of Canada: Christopher J. Kyte, President. Animal Nutrition Association of Canada: Kathleen Sullivan, General Manager.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed on division, — That, witnesses be given 10 minutes for their opening statement; that, at the discretion of the Chair, during the questioning of witnesses, there be allocated 7 minutes for the first questioner of each party; that before the second round of questioning, other members who have not spoken and who wish to speak may do so for 5 minutes; and that thereafter, 5 minutes be allocated to each subsequent questioner alternating between Government and Opposition parties.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, December 10, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-27, An Act to regulate and prohibit certain activities related to food and other products to which the Acts under the administration of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency apply and to provide for the administration and enforcement of those Acts and to amend other Acts in consequence.
 

Kathleen Sullivan, Steve Foster, François Catellier, Christopher J. Kyte and Donna DuBreuil made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
