The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Peter Adams, Bonnie Brown, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Jean Dubé, Raymonde Folco, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Dale Johnston, Judi Longfield, Larry McCormick, Rey Pagtakhan, Andy Scott, Stéphan Tremblay, Maurice Vellacott, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: Judy Sgro for Karen Redman, from 12:55 to 13:08 Charles Caccia for John Godfrey, from 13:05 to 13:40 Stan Keyes for Andy Scott.

Pursuant to 108(2), study on all matters relating to the mandate, management and operation of the department

Paul Crête moved, -- That the Members do not go to vote in the House and that the meeting proceed regularly, after the vote. The question being put it was negatived.

Hon. Jane Stewart made an opening statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 11:41 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

On a motion of Paul Crête a document entitled "The VFM Audit Manual" was tabled before the Committee.

Dale Johnston moved, -- That "Pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the papers on the transitional job fund eight column list of projects as referred to by Mr. Vellacott earlier in his testimony be produced."

After debate, the motion was allowed to stand.

Dale Johnston moved, -- That pursuant to Standing Order 108, the Committee re-invite the Minister of Human Resources Development Canada, the Honourable Jane Stewart, to appear before the Committee before the 18th of February so that the Committee can examine and inquire into all such matters relating to grants and contributions from the Human Resources Development Canada.

Larry McCormick moved, -- That the motion be amended by deleting the words "before the 18th February".

After debate the question being put on the amendment, it was by a show of hands adopted.
