Meeting No. 29

Thursday, May 4, 2000

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Bonnie Brown, Paul Crête, Jean Dubé, Raymonde Folco, John Godfrey, Larry McCormick, Rey Pagtakhan, Judy Sgro, Maurice Vellacott and Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Mackenzie, Kevin Kerr and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada: Dr. Thomas A. Brzustowski, President. From the Private Foundations Canada: Julie White, President and CEO.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), study of HRDC Grants and Contributions.

Julie White and Dr. Thomas Brzustowski made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:32 p.m. the Committee proceeded to its future business.

At 12:33 p.m., the Committee resumed in camera.

It was agreed to invite the following witnesses:

May 16, 2000 Al Hatton

It was agreed, -- That the Committee hold meetings to consider and report on the 2000-01 Main Estimates for the Labour Branch of Department of Human Resources Development;"
"That the committee invite the Hon. Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour and senior officials from the Department, as well as senior officials from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, and the Canadian Artists and Producers Tribunal to appear before the Committee as soon as possible and no later than May 31, 2000;"
"That the Minister provide information relating to future expenditure plans and priorities of the Department;"
and
"That pursuant to Standing Order 81(7&8), the committee consider and report recommendations on the future expenditure plans and priorities of the Department no later than June 3, 2000.

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
