MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 3
Tuesday, November 16, 1999
The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mauril Bélanger, Sarmite Bulte, Pierre de Savoye, John Godfrey, Wendy Lill, Rick Limoges, Clifford Lincoln, Inky Mark, Dennis Mills, Mark Muise, Alex Shepherd, Caroline St-Hilaire, Bryon Wilfert.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of future business.
On motion of Dennis Mills, it was agreed, - To create a Sub-Committee on Amateur Sports in Canada:
- - That will report on the implementation of the recommendations dealing with amateur sport in Sport in Canada: Leadership, Partnership and Accountability, the Sixth Report of the Standing Committee of Canadian Heritage, tabled in the House 3 December 1998.
- That will study other matters that Sub-Committee members deem to fall within the parameters of amateur sport in Canada, including the economic situation of amateur athletes; the situation of francophone athletes in amateur sports; funding for the campaign against the use of drugs in sports; funding of sports governing bodies and associations;
- That this Sub-Committee, once established, present its work plan and its requirements to the Committee;
- That the Sub-Committee meetings should not conflict with the meeting times of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.
- And that, without prior consent from Sub-Committee membership, the Sub-committee will not meet more than once a month.
It was agreed, - That, if a work plan for on a study on newspaper integration is agreed to, the Hon. Keith Davey, Me Tom Kent, Competition Bureau and CRTC representatives be invited to appear before the Committee.
At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
