Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of the system of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence against women and intimate partner violence.

Cynthia Drebot, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jennifer Gagnon, Donna Smith and Samantha Lacourse made statements and answered questions.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Caithlin Scarpelli, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Geneviève L. Latour, Fiona Cunningham, Jean Fong and Daisy Kler made statements and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Rachael Harder gave notice of the following motion:

Given that Status of Women Canada is changing to the Department of Women and Gender Equality, the Committee invite the Minister to brief the Committee on her new mandate no later than Wednesday, December 5, 2018, and that this meeting be no less than one hour in length.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

On motion of Sheila Malcolmson, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in relation to the study of the network of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence against women and intimate partner violence, the Committee add a ninth meeting to be called at the discretion of the Chair.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
