The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 4:33 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Megan Anissa Leslie, Laurin Liu, James Lunney, François Pilon, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Joyce Murray for Kirsty Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Peter Kent, P.C., M.P., Minister of the Environment.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: Paul Boothe, Deputy Minister; Karen Dodds, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science and Technology Branch; Carol Najm, Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance Branch. Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency: Yves Leboeuf, Vice-President, Operations. Parks Canada Agency: Alan Latourelle, Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 1, 2012, the Committee commenced its review of the expenditure plans of the Department of the Environment for 2011-12;
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2011-12: Votes 1c and 10c under ENVIRONMENT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012; and
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-13: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 under ENVIRONMENT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 

The Chair called Votes 1c and 1.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
