The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patricia Davidson, Hon. Wayne Easter, Carole Freeman, Hon. Shawn Murphy and Bill Siksay.

 

Acting Members present: Steven Blaney for Kelly Block, Sylvie Boucher for Pierre Poilievre, Hon. Denis Coderre for Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Earl Dreeshen for Pierre Poilievre, Mario Laframboise for Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac and Daniel Petit for Paul Calandra.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst; Dara Lithwick, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Jennifer Stoddart, Privacy Commissioner. Serge Ménard, M.P., Marc-Aurèle-Fortin.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 110(2), the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination of Jennifer Stoddart to the position of Privacy Commissioner which was referred to the Committee on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.
 

At 3:38 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:46 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Jennifer Stoddart made a statement and answered questions.

 

On motion of Harold Albrecht, it was agreed, — That the Committee has considered the proposed appointment of Jennifer Stoddart as Privacy Commissioner of Canada and reports its support for her appointment.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee report the motion to the House.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h)(vi) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, Novemebr 25, 2010 the Committee commenced its study regarding the appearance of Serge Ménard.
 

Serge Ménard made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
