The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Paul Calandra, Jacques Gourde, Martha Hall Findlay, Derek Lee, Pat Martin, Hon. Dan McTeague, Jean-Yves Roy and Chris Warkentin.

 

Associate Members present: Glenn Thibeault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Public Works and Government Services: Mike Hawkes, Chief Financial Officer, Finance Branch; John McBain, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Real Property Branch. Treasury Board Secretariat: Kelly Gillis, Assistant Secretary, Corporate Services Sector; Alister Smith, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector; Hélène Laurendeau, Assistant Secretary, Labour Relations and Compensation Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2008-2009: Votes 80b and 85b under CANADIAN HERITAGE, Vote 1b under PRIVY COUNCIL, Votes 1b and 5b under PUBLIC WORKS AND GOVERNMENT SERVICES and Votes 1b, 15b, 20b, 30b and 50b under TREASURY BOARD referred to the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2009.
 

Mike Hawkes made a statement and, with John McBain, answered questions.

 

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Alilster Smith, Hélène Laurendeau and Kelly Gillis answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Diane Bourgeois, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates continue the work begun during the last Parliament by giving priority to the study of federal government procurement.

 

On motion of Dan McTeague, it was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates during the Second Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its study of federal government procurement be taken in consideration by the Committee in this session.

 

Pat Martin gave notice of the following motion:

- That on page 90 of Supplementary Estimates (B) the amount of $125,000 transferred to Natural Resources to support the Chrysotile Institute be reduced to $1.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
