The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Bruce Stanton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, John Duncan, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford, Todd Norman Russell and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Hon. Mauril Bélanger and Brian Murphy for Hon. Larry Bagnell.

 

Associate Members present: Megan Leslie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Aideen Nabigon, Acting Executive Director; Alia Butt, Acting Director, Policy and Strategic Planning; Matt Garrow, Acting Director, Corporate Services. Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Linda Barber, Director General, Policy and Partnerships; Caroline Davis, Assistant Deputy Minister, Resolution and Individual Affairs Sector; Patricia Power, Acting Director, Policy. Department of Justice: Paul Vickery, Director and Senior General Counsel.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 10, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of Indian Residential Schools.
 

Linda Barber, Caroline Davis, Patricia Power and Paul Vickery made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
 

Aideen Nabigon, Alia Butt and Matt Garrow made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
