The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Bruce Stanton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, John Duncan, Yvon Lévesque, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford and Bruce Stanton.

 

Acting Members present: Roger Gaudet for Marc Lemay and Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Hon. Larry Bagnell.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Michel Roy, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Treaties and Aboriginal Government; Patrick Borbey, Assistant Deputy Minister, Northern Affairs; Mary Quinn, Director General, Social Policy and Programs Branch. First Nations Finance Authority: Joe Hall, Chairperson; Deanna Hamilton, President and Chief Executive Officer; Steve Berna, Chief Operating Officer; Tim Raybould, Senior Policy Advisor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Report of the Auditor General.
 

Michel Roy, Patrick Borbey and Mary Quinn made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:09 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Northern Territories Economic Development: Barriers and Solutions.
 

Joe Hall, Deanna Hamilton, Steve Berna and Tim Raybould made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Jean Crowder, it was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter to the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs inquiring into the current status of regulations under the First Nations Fiscal and Statistical Management Act, and into the government’s intentions regarding the leverage fund requested by the First Nations Finance Authority.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
