The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Russ Hiebert, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Paul Szabo, David Tilson and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Irwin Cotler for Sukh Dhaliwal, Ken Epp for Dave Van Kesteren, Brian Murphy for Glen Douglas Pearson, Louis Plamondon for Richard Nadeau and Pierre Poilievre for Dave Batters.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: James Latimer, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Pat Martin moved, — That the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics recall Brian Mulroney to appear before the committee to answer supplementary questions and provide further details in relation to the Fifth Report of the Committee, presented to the House on April 2, 2008 and the study undertaken by the Committee giving rise to the report.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Brian Murphy moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “before the Committee” the following: “no later than June 12, 2008,”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That the amendment be amended by replacing the words “June 12” with the word “September”.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the subamendment of Pierre Poilievre and it was negatived on the following recorded division: YEAS: Ken Epp, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Poilievre, Mike Wallace — 4; NAYS: Irwin Cotler, Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Brian Murphy, Louis Plamondon, David Tilson — 7.

 

The question was put on the amendment of Brian Murphy and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Irwin Cotler, Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Brian Murphy, Louis Plamondon — 6; NAYS: Ken Epp, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Poilievre, David Tilson, Mike Wallace — 5.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Irwin Cotler, Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Brian Murphy, Louis Plamondon — 6; NAYS: Ken Epp, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Poilievre, David Tilson, Mike Wallace — 5.
