The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Colin Carrie, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Jean Crowder, Steven John Fletcher, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Michael John Savage and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Bernard Bigras for Nicole Demers.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Alliance of Health Retailers: Croft Woodruff, Vice President Retail, Past president of the Canadian Health Food Association; Nicholas Morcinek, Manufacturer, President of Faunus. Canadian Coalition for Health Freedom: Libby Gardon, President; Phil Anderson, Director; Esther Côté. Friends of Freedom: Diane Miller, Council Member and international lawyer; Chris Gupta, Council Member and consumer rights advocate. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 9, 2005, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-420, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to the clause by clause consideration of Bill C-28 at the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — That no further witnesses be invited to appear before the Committee on Bill C-420, except for those previously confirmed to appear on May 12 and 16, 2005; and that clause by clause consideration of the Bill take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2005.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
