The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Jean Crowder, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Michael John Savage and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Nicole Demers for Marcel Gagnon, Gerry Ritz for James Lunney and Carol Skelton for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Minister of State (Public Health).

 

Witnesses: Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer. Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Brian Evans, Chief Veterinary Officer of Canada; Krista L. Mountjoy, Vice-President, Operations. Hoffmann-La Roche Limited: Paul Brown, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing; Ilona Torontali, Vice-President, Public Affairs, Corporation Communications, Market Access, Health Outcomes and Pricing.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 20, 2005, the Committee commenced its study of the avian flu.
 

The Minister, Brian Evans, David Butler-Jones and Paul Brown made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:51 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 11:43 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
