The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Vice-Chair, Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Colin Carrie, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Nicole Demers, Ruby Dhalla, Steven John Fletcher, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Michael John Savage and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Wajid Khan for Bonnie Brown and Pat Martin for Jean Crowder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Minister of Health.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Ian Shugart, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Policy Branch; Diane Gorman, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 3, 2005, the Committee resumed its study on Internet Pharmacies (including the drug review process and other related matters).
 

The Minister made a statement and answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 21 and Monday, June 13, 2005, the Committee commenced its study of external performance audits on health-related government foundations.
 

Steven John Fletcher moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 21, 2005, this Committee recommends that the federal government appoint the Auditor General to provide external performance audits on health-related government foundations such as Canada Health Infoway, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, Genome Canada, and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, and that this recommendation be reported to the House.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 5:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
