The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Réal Lapierre, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, David Smith, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal ; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Egg Marketing Agency: Peter Clarke, Chair, Production Management Committee. Canadian Turkey Marketing Agency: Phil Boyd, Executive Director. Chicken Farmers of Canada: Mike Dungate, General Manager; David Fuller, President. Canadian Broiler Hatching Egg Marketing Agency: Errol Halkai, General Manager. Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council: K.R (Robin) Horel, President and CEO. Canadian Veterinary Medical Association: Paul Boutet, President Elect; Gordon Dittberner, Senior Advisor, Government Affairs; Jean-Pierre Vaillancourt, Veterinary Poultry Specialist, Director of the Poultry Research Centre, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal.

Pursuant to Standing Order 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination of Adrian Measner, President of the Canadian Wheat Board, which was referred to the Committee on Ocotber 24, 2005

It was agreed, - That Adrian Measner appear before the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed a briefing on Avian Flu.

Peter Clarke, Mike Dungate, Phil Boyd, Errol Halkai and Robin Horel made statements and answered questions.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:48 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 5:00 p.m., Gerry Ritz took the Chair.

Paul Boutet made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
