Meeting No. 8
Wednesday, November 24, 1999
The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:47 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Charles Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Charles Caccia, Marlene Catterall, John Herron, Rahim Jaffer, Joe Jordan, Karen Kraft Sloan, Peter Mancini, Julian Reed, Paddy Torsney.
Acting Members present: Byron Wilfert for David Pratt, Serge Cardin for Jocelyne Girard-Bujold.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert and Christine Labelle Researcher Officers.
Witnesses: From the Urban Pest Management Council of Canada: Wendy Rose, Vice President and Executive Director. From the Canadian Manufacturers of Chemical Specialties Association: Shannon Coombs, Director, Government Relations; Peter McLeod, Chair, Joint Pesticide Standing Committee.
The Committee discussed its future business.
Julian Reed moved -That the Order of October 26, 1999, concerning meetings be rescinded and the following Order be adopted:
"-That the Chair be authorised to hold meetings to receive evidence, when a quorum is not present provided that at least 3 members, including at least 1 Opposition member, are present".
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on the management and use of pesticides in Canada including an evaluation of the performance of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency in preventing pollution and in protecting the environment and human health (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 26,1999 (Meeting no. 1)).
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 5:07p.m., the Vice-Chair, Karen Kraft-Sloan took the Chair.
At 5:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
