Wednesday, September 27, 2000

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, theVice-Chair, Karen Kraft Sloan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Aileen Carroll, Marlene Catterall, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Dennis Gruending, John Herron, Karen Kraft Sloan, David Pratt, Julian Reed.

Acting Members present: Pierre Brien for Jean-Guy Chrétien, Jim Abbot for Rahim Jaffer, Gar Knutson for Nick Discepola, Karen Redman for Paddy Torsney.

Associate Member present: Clifford Lincoln.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Christine Labelle, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Bob Watts, Assistant Deputy Minister, Lands and Trust Services; Hiram Beaubier, Director General, Natural Resources and Environment Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of issues pertaining to the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada with respect to Bill C-33, an Act respecting the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, June 15, 2000, Meeting No. 44).

Bob Watts made a statement and with Hiram Beaubier answered questions.

At 4:45 p.m., Aileen Caroll took the Chair.

At 5:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
