Meeting No. 21
Tuesday, February 15, 2000
The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in camera at 8:44 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Charles L. Caccia, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Marlene Catterall, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Gurmant Grewal, John Herron, Joe Jordan, Karen Kraft Sloan, Walt Lastewka, David Pratt, Julian Reed, Paddy Torsney.
Acting Member present: Clifford Lincoln for Nick Discepola.
Other Member present: Dennis Gruending.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Monique Hébert, Christine Labelle and Linda Webster, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on the management and use of pesticides in Canada including an evaluation of the performance of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency in preventing pollution and in protecting the environment and human health (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 26,1999 (Meeting no. 1)).
The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.
The Committee discussed its future business.
It was agreed, -That the Committee request that the Minister of the Environment, the leader of the Canadian delegation and other appropriate officials appear before it to explain Canada’s position on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in view of the Fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) seeking an international protocol on POPs and chaired by Canada, to be held in Bonn from March 20-25, 2000, and also because the issue is related to the elimination of certain pesticides, a topic currently under study by the Committee.
At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
