The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Karen Kraft Sloan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Charles L. Caccia, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, John Herron, Rahim Jaffer, Karen Kraft Sloan and Julian Reed.
Acting Members present: Gar Knutson for Aileen Carroll, Clifford Lincoln for Nick Discepola, Peter Stoffer for Dennis Gruending and Karen Redman for Paddy Torsney.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Christine Labelle, Resarch Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Dr. John Davis, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science; Dr. Howard Powles, Director, Fisheries Research Branch, Fisheries & Oceans Science Directorate.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of issues pertaining to the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada with respect to Bill C-33, an Act respecting the protection of wildlife species at risk in Canada (See Minutes of Proceedings of Thursday, June 15, 2000, Meeting No. 44).
Dr. John Davis made a statement and, with Dr. Howard Powles, answered questions.
At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
