It was agreed, — That, considering the disproportionate impact of human rights violation on women and girls internationally, the subcommittee will ensure that all future studies conducted will apply a gendered lens and utilize the GBA+ Analysis framework.
It was agreed, — That the clerk arrange for the press conference on the human rights situation of the Uyghurs to take place on a date agreed to after consultation with the Uyghur community, and that members of the subcommittee from the previous session also be invited to attend.
It was agreed, — That, on a yearly basis, the subcommittee submit a study budget to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development for the purpose of conducting a study of Women Human Rights Defenders whose work merits recognition; and that the list of relevant witnesses be compiled in collaboration with Canada's missions and human rights organizations, at the request of the subcommittee.
It was agreed, — That the news release on the human rights situation of the Uyghurs be translated into traditional Chinese as well as simplified Chinese.
It was agreed, — That the subcommittee proceed to one-meeting studies of the current situations in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Columbia, Turkey and Northern Syria, Hong Kong and the Philippines; that the meeting on the current situation in Nigeria be held as soon as possible; and that the chair be given latitude with scheduling of the remainder of the meetings.
It was agreed, — That the subcommittee undertake a longer study of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on migrants, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons, using Venezuela and Myanmar as a case study.
It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), considering the alleged violations of fundamental human rights by Canadian companies in Latin America and elsewhere, the subcommittee study and report on the role and powers of the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise; that the list of witnesses include representatives from the Working Group on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and other business enterprises, Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability and the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise; and, that the meetings be televised if possible and that the subcommittee report to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.
It was agreed, — That witnesses for the study of the current situation in Nigeria be forwarded to the clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020.
At 5:13 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
