Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 4, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of advancing inclusion and quality of life for Canadian seniors.

Donald Shiner, Nicola MacNaughton, Janet Craik, Lisa Sullivan, John Beaney and Olufemi Adegun made statements and answered questions.

• Benjamin Kane Fulton, Recipient, 2017 Centennial Flame Research Award
Pursuant to the Centennial Flame Research Award Act and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of 2017 Centennial Flame Research Award.

Benjamin Kane Fulton made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

At 5:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study of experiential learning for younger Canadians;

that, in relation to this study, the Committee focus on the movement of people, from high school and CEGEP, through post-secondary education structures (e.g. university, college, apprenticeships and other training programs), and ultimately into the workforce, studying how experiential learning opportunities inform this process;

that the Committee hear from witnesses for eight meetings;

that one meeting be dedicated to hearing from the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour and departmental officials;

that one meeting be dedicated to apprenticeships;

that one meeting be dedicated to youth underemployment after completing their education;

that one meeting be dedicated to youth unemployment and how it harms the transition to the workforce;

that one meeting be dedicated to co-op programs and work-integrated learning;

that one meeting be dedicated to volunteerism and internships and how they inform work decisions for students;

that one meeting be dedicated to school-to-work transition strategy in Canada compared with international models and programs;

that the final meeting be dedicated to the consideration and approval of a draft report; and

that the Committee report its findings, including recommendations, to the House and that the Government provide a response to the recommendations made by the Committee.

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
