The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 9:31 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Peter Braid, Hon. Michael D. Chong and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Steven Blaney for Mike Lake, Hon. Denis Coderre for Hon. Dan McTeague, Jacques Gourde for Gordon Brown, Carol Hughes for Brian Masse, Richard Nadeau for Serge Cardin, Massimo Pacetti for Anthony Rota, Marcel Proulx for Anthony Rota, Francis Scarpaleggia for Marc Garneau, Bev Shipley for Dave Van Kesteren and Lise Zarac for Hon. Dan McTeague.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the permanent closure of Abitibi-Bowater of Gatineau and Dolbeau-Mistassini.
 

David J. Paterson and Bruce Robertson made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:35 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Coles, Gaétan Ménard, Julien Lamontagne, Gaston Carrière and Georges Simard made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of Mike Wallace, it was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $ 16,700, for the Committee's study of the permanent closure of Abitibi-Bowater of Gatineau and Dolbeau-Mistassini, be adopted.

 

Jean-Pierre Boivin, Yves Lachapelle, Justine Hendricks and Don Stephenson made statements and, with Colin Bird and Rob Hodges, answered questions.

 

At 3:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
