The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 8:55 a.m. this day, in Room C-160, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Bruce Stanton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Earl Dreeshen, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Anita Neville, Greg Rickford, Todd Norman Russell, Bruce Stanton and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: David Sweet for LaVar Payne and Dave Van Kesteren for LaVar Payne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Danielle Lussier, Analyst; Shauna Troniak, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Specific Claims Tribunal Canada: Harry Slade, Chairperson; Alisa Lombard, Law Clerk; Edward Ratushny, Legal Counsel.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 4, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of specific claims tribunal process.
 

Harry Slade made a statement and with Alissa Lombard, answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 25, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of First Nations child and family services.
 

It was agreed, — That the analyst prepare a summary of the recommendations proposed by the witnesses who appeared as part of the study on First Nations Child and Family Services.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee request that the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) table with the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development its estimates regarding the fiscal impact of the passage of Bill C-3 on First Nations Child and Family Services, as well as any documents regarding INAC’s plans to address this impact; and that these documents be provided by Monday, March 21, 2011 so that the Committee can include the information in its report on First Nations Child and Family Services.

 

At 10:27 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
