The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Bonnie Brown, Gord Brown, Hon. Roy Cullen, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Dave MacKenzie, Colin Mayes, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Penny Priddy and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Marlene Jennings for Hon. Sue Barnes and Thomas J. Mulcair for Penny Priddy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Bob Paulson, Chief Superintendent and Acting Assistant Commissioner, National Security Criminal Investigations; Christian Roy, Senior Counsel, Legal Services; Raf Souccar, Assistant Commissioner, Federal Policing; Sylvie Tremblay, Sergeant, Media relations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on June 2, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of security issues concerning the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
 

Serge Ménard moved, — That the witnesses be sworn in.

 

At 3:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 8.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk contact the Members' offices three weeks after the Foreign Affairs Department review of the handling of classified documents is made public to determine a date for the Committee to meet.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
