The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Bonnie Brown, Gord Brown, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Dave MacKenzie, Colin Mayes, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Penny Priddy and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Roger Valley for Hon. Roy Cullen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Philip Rosen, Principal.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Ujjal Dosanjh moved, — That the Public Safety and National Security Committee study the incident involving the tragic death of Robert Dziekanski and invite representatives of the Canada Border Services Agency, the Vancouver International Airport Authority, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and other parties including interested individuals, to make representations to the committee to that effect.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Ujjal Dosanjh moved, — That the motion be amended by adding before the word “incident” the following: “issues arising out of the”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Ujjal Dosanjh and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Public Safety and National Security Committee study the issues arising out of the incident involving the tragic death of Robert Dziekanski and invite representatives of the Canada Border Services Agency, the Vancouver International Airport Authority, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and other parties including interested individuals, to make representations to the committee to that effect .

 

At 4:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:03 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear witnesses on Bill C-3 on November 27, 29 and December 4, 2007 and proceed to clause by clause consideration of the Bill on December 6, 2007.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear witnesses on its Review of the Witness Protection Program study on December 11, 2007 and proceed to give drafting instructions on a report to the House to the analysts on December 13, 2007.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
