Meeting No. 35

Monday, June 9, 2008

The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Bonnie Brown, Gord Brown, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Dave MacKenzie, Colin Mayes, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Penny Priddy and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

Acting Members present: Hon. Marlene Jennings for Hon. Roy Cullen and Bruce Stanton for Rick Norlock.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst ; Philippe Bergevin, Analyst.

Witnesses: Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers' Marketing Board: Fred Neukamm, Vice-Chair; Linda Vandendriessche, Chair.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, April 14, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Contraband tobacco.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, within the context of its study of security issues raised by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Public Safety and Maxime Bernier be invited to appear either on June 16 or 17, 2008, and that Julie Couillard be invited to appear on June 18, 2008 for one hour and fifteen minutes.

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
