The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Claude DeBellefeuille for Luc Malo and Peter Julian for Charlie Angus.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Kevin Rollason; Mary Rollason-MacAulay. Federation of Associations of French-speaking Jurists of Common Law : Louise Aucoin, President. Women's Legal Education and Action Fund: Chantal Tie, Member, Law Program Committee. As individuals: Gisèle Lalonde, Former President of SOS Montfort; Ronald Caza, Lawyer. Commission scolaire de langue française de l'Ile-du-Prince-Édouard: Gisèle St-Amand, Director General. Quebec English School Boards Association: Marcus Tabachnick, President; David Birnbaum, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Mauril Bélanger, it was agreed on division, — That representatives of the Court Challenges Program be invited to appear before the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Court Challenges Program.
 

Kevin Rollason, Louise Aucoin and Chantal Tie made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Gisèle Lalonde, Ronald Caza, Gisèle St-Amand, Marcus Tabachnick made statements and with David Birnbaum answered questions.

 

At 5:39 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
