The Subcommittee on Solicitation Laws of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met in a televised session at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Paule Brunelle, Libby Davies, Art Hanger and John Maloney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Barnett, Analyst; Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Coalition for the Rights of Sex Workers: Jennifer Clamen, Member and Coordinator for the XXX Forum. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Darrell LaFosse, Assistant Commissioner, Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing Services. Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centres: Lee Lakeman, Regional Representative for B.C. & Yukon. Simon Fraser University: John Lowman, Professor, School of Criminology. Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto: Maurganne Mooney, Member. University of Ottawa: Richard Poulin, Full Professor, Department of Sociology. PIVOT Legal Society: Katrina Pacey, Director. Prostitution Awareness and Action Foundation of Edmonton: Kate Quinn, Member. Stepping Stone: Rene Ross, Chair. Concordia University: Frances Shaver, Professor, Department of Sociology & Anthropology. Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Berry Vrbanovic, Chair, Standing Committee on Community Safety and Crime Prevention.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness on November 24, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of Solicitation Laws.
 

Jennifer Clamen, Rene Ross, Maurganne Mooney, John Lowman, Richard Poulin, Frances Shaver, Darrell LaFosse, Katrina Pacey, Kate Quinn, Lee Lakeman and Berry Vrbanovic made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:54 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 1:21 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
