The Subcommittee on Solicitation Laws of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met in a televised session at 5:43 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Paule Brunelle, Hedy Fry, Art Hanger and John Maloney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Barnett, Analyst; Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: University of New Brunswick: Leslie Ann Jeffrey, Professor, Department of History and Politics. St. Thomas University: Gayle MacDonald, Professor, Department of Sociology.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on December 14, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of Solicitation Laws.
 

Leslie Ann Jeffrey and Gayle MacDonald made statements and answered questions.

 

At 7:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 7:32 p.m., the Subcommittee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 143 678, for the Subcommittee’s travel to Liverpool, London, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Stockholm from May 22 to May 30, 2005, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 56 526, for the Subcommittee’s travel to Reno, Nevada, from April 27 to 30, 2005 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 7:49 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
