Tuesday, November 16, 1999
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:40 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Colleen Beaumier, Bill Graham, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Deepak Obhrai, Denis Paradis, Bernard Patry, Yves Rocheleau, Bob Speller.
Acting Members present: Sarmite Bulte for Hon. Fred Mifflin.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Daniel Dupras, Research Officers. From the Translation Bureau of Public Works and Government Services Canada : Gabriella Etcheveri.
Witnesses: From the North-South Institute: Gail Whiteman, Senior Researcher on Corporate Social Responsibility. From Mining Watch Canada: Joan Kuyek, National Coordinator. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and Article 25(3) of the Export Development Act, the Committee resumed its study of the Report on the Review of the Export Development Act.
Pamela Foster, Bill Fairbairn, Kimy Pernia, Jacques Bertrand, Hon. Warren Allmand, Linda Nowlan, Gail Whiteman, Joan Kuyek and Patricia Adams each made an opening statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, --That the Committee approve a budget for its operating expenditures for the period of November 1 to December 31, 1999 in the amount of $30,000.00.
At 11:45 a.m., the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier took the Chair.
The witnesses continued to answer questions.
At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
