Tuesday, October 17, 2000
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met jointly at 9:05 a.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chairs, Bill Graham, and John Harvard, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Bill Graham, Diane Marleau, Pat O'Brien, Bernard Patry.
Members of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food present: Hélène Alarie, Garry Breitfreuz, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Howard Hilstrom, Gar Knutson, Larry McCormick, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.
Associate Member present: Dennis Gruending.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament Research Branch: James Lee, John Wright, Frédéric Forge, Research Officers and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.
Witness(es): From the Canadian Council for International Cooperation: Esperanza Moreno, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Jack Wilkinson, Past President. From the Canadian Foodgrains Bank: Stuart Clark, Policy Manager. From the Oxfam Canada: Rieky Stuart, Executive Director.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committees convened a briefing session on World Food Day.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
