It was agreed, — That the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, as amended, which read as follows, be concurred in:
Your subcommittee met on Monday, April 8, 2024, to consider the business of the committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:
- That drafting instructions on the elver study be given to the analysts during committee business on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
- That the priority for the upcoming studies is as follows:
- Population sustainability of Yukon salmon stocks
- Derelict and abandoned vessels on Canada’s West Coast, the Arctic and Atlantic Coasts
- Review of the Fishery Act 2019
- Succession planning and the next generation of fish harvesters.
- That in scheduling meetings up until June, the priority should be given to studies that are in progress including the reports of those studies.
- That the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guards appear on the Main Estimates 2024-25 as soon as she is available and that that appearance takes precedence on the scheduled meetings.
- That the committee allot one meeting with witnesses on the study of redfish quotas, should the motion from Ms. Desbiens be adopted in committee.
- That the consideration of version one of the draft report for the study of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing be on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9, 2024, if necessary, once is it distributed on Friday, May 3, 2024.
- That the consideration of version two of the draft report of the study of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing be on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
- That the consideration of version one of the draft letter for the study of plans to prevent violence during the 2024 elver fishing season be scheduled as soon as it is available and be prioritized over other studies in progress.
- That the consideration of version one of the draft letter for the study of the scales used by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to set redfish quotas be scheduled as soon as it is available and be prioritized over other studies in progress.
- That the study of the population sustainability of Yukon salmon stocks be shortened by two meetings as the list of witnesses has expired.
- That the last scheduled meeting in June be a committee business to look at the calendar for the fall.
