Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, May 10, 2016, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-15, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2016 and other measures.

Alex Scholten, Daniel Kelly, Anders Bruun and Hendrik Brakel made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Phil McColeman moved, — That the Standing Committee on Finance compel officials at the Department of Finance, as well as the Finance Minister and his exempt staff, to provide documents indicating any plans to reduce the small business tax rate during the course of the government’s present mandate, including any correspondence with the Canadian Convenience Store Association or other industry associations indicating a plan to proceed with a small business tax rate reduction; and

that the Finance Department also provide the names of any officials who have met with the Canadian Convenience Store Association since the 2015 election.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 5.

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, the following corrections be made: the Committee will hear from departmental officials on Bill C-15 on Wednesday, May 18; the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-15 will begin on Monday, May 30, following the appearance of the Minister of Finance; lastly, the Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, will begin at 11 a.m.

At 1:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
