The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Daryl Kramp, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Hon. Wayne Easter, Randall Garrison, Roxanne James, Daryl Kramp, Larry Maguire, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne, Blake Richards and Jean Rousseau.

 

Associate Members present: Paul Calandra and Dave MacKenzie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Kim Hancox. Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime: Krista Gray-Donald, Director, Advocacy and Awareness. Correctional Service of Canada: Don Head, Commissioner. Toronto Police Association: Mike McCormack, President. Union of Canadian Correctional Officers: Kevin Grabowsky, President.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, February 7, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-483, An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (escorted temporary absence).
 

Kim Hancox, Krista Gray-Donald and Don Head made statements and answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That Paul Calandra be authorized to question the witnesses.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Kevin Grabowsky, by teleconference from Montréal, Québec, and Mike McCormack made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
