The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Hélène LeBlanc, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Kirsty Duncan, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Annick Papillon, Djaouida Sellah, Susan Truppe, Terence Young and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Corneliu Chisu for Joyce Bateman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Niki Ashton moved, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Kellie Leitch, Minister for Status of Women, to appear before it on the Supplementary Estimates (B) before December 3, 2013 for two hours to discuss plans and priorities for Status of Women Canada, and that this session be televised.

 

Susan Truppe moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “before December 3, 2013 for two hours to discuss plans and priorities for Status of Women Canada, and that this session be televised” with the words “by December 5, 2013, for up to one hour, followed by officials in the second hour, and that this session be televised if possible”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Susan Truppe and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee invite the Honourable Kellie Leitch, Minister for Status of Women, to appear before it on the Supplementary Estimates (B) by December 5, 2013, for up to one hour, followed by officials in the second hour, and that this session be televised if possible.

 

Susan Truppe moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Stella Ambler, Joyce Bateman, Joan Crockatt, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe, Terence Young, Wai Young — 7; NAYS: Niki Ashton, Kirsty Duncan, Annick Papillon, Djaouida Sellah — 4.

 

At 3:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure. The Report was concurred in and read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Thursday, November 7, 2013, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

That the Committee resume its study on sexual harassment in the federal workplace, commenced during the First Session of the 41st Parliament; that the evidence and documentation received by the Committee at that time on the subject be taken into consideration by the Committee in the current session; and that recommendations to be included in the draft report be submitted to the Clerk of the Committee within 48 hours of the adoption of this recommendation.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee conduct a study of eating disorders amongst girls and women, including the nature of these diseases, what treatments are providing the most relief to patients and where they are available, how family physicians can learn more about eating disorders and how to treat them, what roadblocks exist to better serve girls and women with eating disorders, and what resources relevant stakeholders need to improve the lives of these patients.

 

It was agreed, — That, in regard to the study on eating disorders amongst girls and women, each party send a list of possible witnesses to the Clerk by Friday, November 22, 2013.

 

It was agreed, — That, in regard to the study on eating disorders amongst girls and women, the analysts prepare a briefing note for the members of the Committee.

 

At 4:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
