The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Joan Crockatt, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Djaouida Sellah, Susan Truppe, Terence Young and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McKay for Kirsty Duncan.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Joann Garbig, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Tilly O'Neill Gordon, it was agreed, — That Hélène LeBlanc be elected Chair of the Committee.

 
By unanimous consent, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee proceeded to the election of Vice-Chairs.
 

On motion of Djaouida Sellah, it was agreed, — That Tilly O'Neill Gordon be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Susan Truppe, it was agreed, — That Kirsty Duncan be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee in absentia.

 

Hélène LeBlanc took the Chair.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 22,500 for the study of Eating Disorders Amongst Girls and Women, be adopted.

 

Susan Truppe moved, — That, further to the Order adopted by the House on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, regarding changes to committee memberships, the Committee’s routine motion regarding the questioning of witnesses be replaced by the following:

That witnesses be given ten (10) minutes to make their opening statement; that during the questioning of witnesses, the time allocated to each questioner be as follows: on the first round of questioning, seven (7) minutes to a representative of each party in the following order: Conservative Party, New Democratic Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Party. On the following round of questioning, five (5) minutes per party in the following order: Conservative Party, New Democratic Party, Conservative Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Party.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 3:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
