The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Chris Warkentin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Ray Boughen, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Earl Dreeshen, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain, Carol Hughes, Kyle Seeback, Mark Strahl and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Norah Kielland, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Mi'kmaq First Nation Assembly of Newfoundland: Anne Hart, Representative; Jaimie Lickers, Representative.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, March 7, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-25, An Act respecting the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band Order.
 

Anne Hart made a statement, and with Jaimie Lickers, answered questions.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That in relation to its study of Bill C-25, the Committee begin clause-by-clause consideration on Thursday, April 3, 2014;

2. That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee initiate a study of wills and estates;

3. That in relation to its study on wills and estates, officials from the Justice Department as well as from the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development be invited to brief the Committee on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 and, that John Gailus be invited to testify on Thursday, April 10, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 6,500.00, for the study of Bill C-25, an Act respecting the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band Order, be adopted.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
