The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Ben Lobb, Larry Miller, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Brian Storseth, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Raymond Côté for Alex Atamanenko and Chungsen Leung for Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Maple Leaf Foods Inc.: Rory McAlpine, Vice-President, Government and Industry Relations. XL Foods Inc.: Brian A. Read, Vice-President, Government and Industry Relations.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study of the animal products supply chain, and in addition to the site visits agreed to on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, and on Monday, May 7, 2012, the Committee conduct a site visit to Organic Meadow during its travel to Guelph, Ontario, on Monday, May 28, 2012.

 

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the animal products supply chain (red meat).
 

Rory McAlpine and Brian A. Read made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
