The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in a video recorded session at 8:30 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Alex Atamanenko, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Blake Richards, Merv Tweed, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

Acting Members present: Patrick Brown for Brian Storseth, Dave MacKenzie for Brian Storseth and Lawrence Toet for Brian Storseth.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst ; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Gerry Ritz, P.C., M.P., Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2012-13: Votes 1b, 5b, 10b and 25b under AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD referred to the Committee on Thursday, November 8, 2012.

The Chair called Vote 1b under AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD.

The Minister made a statement and, with George Da Pont and Paul Mayers, answered questions.

At 9:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:36 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Paul Mayers, Greg Meredith, Peter Everson, Rita Moritz and Barbara Jordan answered questions.

Vote 1b under AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD carried.

Malcolm Allen gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee ask the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to undertake to the Committee to release information that the Parliamentary Budget Officer has requested on the cuts in his department.
