The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Paul Calandra, Olivia Chow, Hon. Denis Coderre, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Thierry St-Cyr, Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac, David Tilson, Alice Wong and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua.

Other Members present: Megan Anissa Leslie.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Daphne Keevil Harrold, Analyst ; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Paul Armstrong, Director General, Centralized Processing Region. Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI): Amy Casipullai, Coordinator, Policy and Public Education. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Claudette Deschênes, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations. Metro Toronto Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic: Avvy Yao-Yao Go, Clinic Director. Canada Employment and Immigration Union: Alan Lennon, Coordinator; Wilfrid MacKinnon, Local President, Citizenship and Immigration (Sydney); Jeannette Meunier-McKay, National President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday March 18, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of immigration application process wait times.

Avvy Yao-Yao Go, Amy Casipullai and Jeannette Meunier-McKay made statements and, with Wilfrid MacKinnon and Alan Lennon, answered questions.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Claudette Deschênes made a statement and, with Paul Armstrong, answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
