The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met by videoconference at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Thierry St-Cyr, David Tilson and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger for Hon. Denis Coderre, Sukh Dhaliwal for Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant for Paul Calandra, Colin Mayes for Alice Wong and Louis Plamondon for Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst; Daphne Keevil Harrold, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Centre des femmes de Verdun: Annie Kouamy, Community Advocate; Alein Ortégon, Community Advocate. As an individual: Richard Kurland, Attorney. Niagara Region: Peter Partington, Chairman. City of Niagara Falls: Ted Salci, Mayor.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 29, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Federal Courts Act.
 

Annie Kouamy, Alein Ortégon and Richad Kurland, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Peter Partington and Ted Salci by videoconference from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
