The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Hon. Geoff Regan, Devinder Shory, Alan Tonks and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Russ Hiebert and Luc Malo for France Bonsant.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources.

 

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: Cassie J. Doyle, Deputy Minister; Serge Dupont, Associate Deputy Minister; Tom Wallace, Director General, Electricity Resources Branch. Department of Health: Meena Ballantyne, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes.
 

Serge Dupont and Meena Ballantyne made statements and, with Tom Wallace, answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:37 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
