The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Judy Sgro, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Maria Mourani, Hon. Anita Neville, Hon. Judy Sgro, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton and Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst; Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action: Leilani Farha, Co-Chair, Human Rights Committee. National Association of Women and the Law: Andrée Côté, Director, Legislation and Law Reform. National Council of Women of Canada : Catharine Laidlaw-Sly, Policy Advisor. Native Women's Association of Canada: Sherry Lewis, Executive Director. Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women: Lise Martin, Executive Director. DisAbled Women's Network of Canada: Monika Chappell, Chair. Fédération des femmes du Québec: Charlotte Thibault, Member. Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women - Newfoundland and Labrador: Leslie MacLeod, President. United Nation Platform for Action Committee Manitoba : Jennifer deGroot, Project Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 7, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of the Potential impact of recent funding and program changes at Status of Women Canada.
 

Catharine Laidlaw-Sly, Leilani Farha, Andrée Côté and Sherry Lewis made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Charlotte Thibault, Leslie MacLeod, Jennifer deGroot, Lise Martin and Monika Chappell made statements and answered questions.

 

At 6:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
