The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Yasmin Ratansi, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Maria Minna, Hon. Anita Neville, Yasmin Ratansi, Joy Smith and Bruce Stanton.

Acting Members present: Bonnie Brown for Hon. Anita Neville and Glen Douglas Pearson for Hon. Belinda Stronach.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst ; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Bev Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women.

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Florence Ievers, Coordinator.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on Changes to the Department of Status of Women Canada.

The Hon. Bev Oda made a statement and, with Florence Ievers, answered questions.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the Committee's study on Human Trafficking in the amount of $8,400, for the period of February 1, 2007 to March 30, 2007 be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the Committee's study on Potential Impact of recent funding and program changes at Status Women of Canada in the amount of $28,000, for the period of February 1, 2007 to March 30, 2007 be adopted.

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
