The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Judy Sgro, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nina Grewal, Helena Guergis, Hon. Maria Minna, Maria Mourani, Hon. Anita Neville, Hon. Judy Sgro, Joy Smith, Bruce Stanton and Hon. Belinda Stronach.

 

Acting Members present: Chris Charlton for Irene Mathyssen, Jean Crowder for Irene Mathyssen, Claude DeBellefeuille for Johanne Deschamps and Marc Lemay for Johanne Deschamps.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Christine Aubin, Counsel, Legal Services. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 21st, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of human trafficking.
 

Danielle Strickland, Mirjana Pobric and Dr. Shandip Saha made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the government response to report no. 7.
 

The Hon. Jim Prentice made a statement and, with the Wendy Grant-John and Christine Aubin, answered questions.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
