The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, the Vice-Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Gordon O'Connor and James Lunney for Dave MacKenzie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst. As an Individual: Joseph P. Culligan, Consultant.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2005, the Committee resumed its study of review of defence policy.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Judi Longfield moved, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs endorse the appointment of Mr. Yves Côté as Ombudsman for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived.

 

At 11:06 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
