The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 9:11 a.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, the Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Bill Blaikie, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. David A. Anderson for Hon. Larry Bagnell and Cheryl Gallant for Betty Hinton.

 

In attendance: As an Individual: Joseph P. Culligan, Consultant. Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 103,996, for the Committee's travel to Europe from October 8 to 14, 2005, and a budget in the amount of $ 117,556, for the Committee’s travel to the North of Canada from October 31 to November 4, 2005 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budgets to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee with the proviso that the Chair and Mr. Blaikie agressively request more money for travel be alotted to the Committee as money is freed up from the third trimester of this year.

 

It was agreed, — That witnesses from the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs, be invited to appear Tuesday June 21, 2005 to provide the Committee with a briefing on the issue of Agent Orange, specifically what they are doing to identify people who were exposed to the chemical and all the locations where the chemical was used.

 

At 10:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
